Neck & Back Pain from Laptop, Phone or Desk Work

Eight hours on a laptop, then more on your phone. If your neck feels stiff, your shoulders are always tight or your lower back aches by evening, your posture is probably the cause. Our osteopathy assessment finds where the strain is coming from and corrects it with gentle, hands-on treatment.

Common Problems From Screens & Sitting

"Tech Neck"

Stiffness and pain in the neck from looking down at a phone or laptop for hours. Often comes with tension headaches.

Shoulder & Upper Back Tension

Tight, knotted shoulders and an ache between the shoulder blades from hunching forward at a desk.

Lower Back Pain From Sitting

A dull ache or stiffness in the lower back after long hours in a chair, a car or on the couch.

How Osteopathy Helps

Find the Cause, Then Correct It

Pain is often felt in one place but caused somewhere else. A stiff neck may come from a rounded upper back; lower back pain may come from tight hips after long hours of sitting.

  • Assessment: posture, joint movement and muscle tension are checked to find where the strain starts
  • Hands-on treatment: gentle osteopathic techniques to release tension and restore movement
  • Desk & posture advice: simple changes to your setup and habits
  • Exercises: a few short stretches you can do at your desk or at home

5 Desk Habits That Help

  • Keep the top of your screen at eye level — use a stand or a few books under your laptop
  • Sit back in your chair with your feet flat on the floor
  • Get up and move for a couple of minutes every 30–45 minutes
  • Hold your phone up at eye level instead of looking down at it
  • Avoid working from your bed or couch for long stretches

If the pain keeps coming back despite these changes, it is worth getting assessed.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

I am only in my 20s. Is it normal to have neck and back pain?

It is very common now, but it is not something you should simply live with. Long hours on laptops and phones put steady strain on the neck, shoulders and lower back. Addressed early, these patterns are usually easier to correct.

How is osteopathy different from a massage?

A massage mainly relaxes muscles. Osteopathy starts with an assessment of your posture, joints and movement to find where the strain is coming from, then uses gentle hands-on techniques and simple exercises to correct it.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on how long you have had the pain and your daily routine. Your osteopath will suggest a plan after the first assessment. Improvement usually happens over a series of sessions, not in one visit.
