Abhyanga Is Not a Massage
Abhyanga is often misunderstood as a relaxation or wellness massage. In classical Ayurveda, Abhyanga is a medically guided oil therapy used for regulation, preparation and recovery. At Sattva, Abhyanga is applied with clinical intent, not for indulgence.
How Abhyanga Is Used at Sattva
Abhyanga is planned based on individual assessment, not preference. It may be used to:
- Regulate the nervous system
- Improve circulation and tissue nourishment
- Support recovery from fatigue or imbalance
- Prepare the body for deeper Panchkarma therapies
The choice of oil, pressure, timing and duration matters — each is determined by the treating doctor's assessment, not a fixed protocol.
Abhyanga Within Panchkarma
Abhyanga functions as a preparatory therapy, a supportive therapy during Panchkarma, and a recovery and stabilisation therapy. It is used alongside other Panchkarma therapies — Vamana, Virechana, Basti and Nasya — when clinically indicated, and always selected and sequenced by doctors.
Who Abhyanga Is For
- Individuals seeking structured, doctor-guided care
- People interested in the correct clinical application of Ayurvedic therapies
